Over the next two to three days, heavy rainfall is expected across various regions of Bangladesh due to the combined effects of the monsoon and a developing low-pressure system.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a 72-hour weather forecast starting from 9 am on Friday, which also warns of strong winds over the Bay of Bengal.
According to the forecast, a low-pressure area has formed over the Northwest Bay and the adjoining Gangetic West Bengal-Bangladesh coast. The axis of monsoon troughs extends through Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, the center of the low to Assam across Bangladesh. The monsoon is currently active in Bangladesh and is strong over the North Bay.
"On Friday, light to moderate rain/thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are likely to occur at most places in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions, and at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, and Mymensingh divisions with moderately heavy to very heavy falls expected in Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions," the BMD stated.
In addition, the maritime ports of Bangladesh have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal no. 3.
