Dhaka, Dec 08 (V7N) – The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has upheld the High Court's decision to dismiss five labour law cases filed against former interim government Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.

The verdict was delivered on Sunday by a bench led by Senior Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, following the rejection of separate leave-to-appeal petitions filed by the state challenging the High Court's ruling.

Barrister Mustafizur Rahman Khan represented Dr Yunus during the proceedings, while Additional Attorney General Anik R Haque argued for the state.

Previously, on October 24, the High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain annulled the proceedings of five labour law cases and one defamation case lodged against Dr Yunus.

These cases, initiated during the tenure of the previous Awami League government, alleged that Dr Yunus, as chairman of Grameen Telecommunications, violated labour laws. The accusations stemmed from actions taken in response to a proposed trade union by dismissed workers in 2019.
