Sirajganj, Jan 30 (V7N) – A case has been filed in court against Jahid Molla, the BNP president of Chouhali Upazila, on charges of demanding extortion during the construction of a house. The court has directed the Sirajganj DB Police to investigate the matter.

The complaint was filed on January 21 by Osman Ali, the vice president of the Chouhali Upazila Fisheries Party. Osman alleges that while constructing a house on 27 decimals of land he inherited from his father-in-law in Kurki East Para, Jamuna River erosion had previously displaced his ancestral home. On January 1, he claims, Jahid Molla arrived with 20-25 people and demanded 3 lakh taka as extortion. When Osman refused, Molla allegedly forced him to sign three blank stamp papers and threatened to stop the construction work unless the money was paid. He also allegedly threatened physical harm and even death if Osman did not comply.

Osman further stated that after filing the petition in court, Molla became even more hostile, leading Osman to temporarily relocate for safety reasons. Due to the ongoing construction halt, materials are deteriorating.
