Dhaka, Feb 19, 2025 (V7N) – The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has scheduled a verdict for tomorrow, Thursday, regarding the appeal filed on behalf of 1,137 individuals who were denied employment in the 27th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).

Following a hearing on three appeals concerning this matter, the five-member bench, led by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed, made the announcement on Wednesday.

The appeals process began on November 7, 2024, when the Appellate Division ordered a review of the decisions made against the 1,137 candidates who contested for positions in the 27th BCS but were unsuccessful. The four-member Appellate Division, after reviewing a separate petition for a verdict review, granted leave to appeal.

The legal battle stretches back to a ruling made on July 11, 2010, when the Appellate Division upheld the High Court's decision to cancel the initial oral examination of the 27th BCS. In response, 140 individuals submitted separate petitions on behalf of the affected candidates, seeking a review of that verdict.

One of the writ petitioners expressed optimism about the outcome, stating, "We are hopeful that the long 16-year legal battle will come to an end tomorrow." The verdict is keenly anticipated by those involved, as it could determine the future employment prospects for the candidates who have fought for their rights over the years.
