Dr Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, has termed the acquittal of party leader ATM Azharul Islam in a 1971 war crimes case as a victory of truth.

He made the comment on Tuesday, following the Appellate Division’s verdict acquitting Azhar.

“This verdict proves that falsehood has been defeated, and truth has prevailed,” said Dr Taher, expressing gratitude to the court.

Earlier, the Appellate Division overturned the death sentence handed down to Azhar by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) in the war crimes case, thereby acquitting him of all charges.
