Dhaka, Aug 20 (V7N) – The Chamber Court has suspended the bail granted to police officer SI Sajjad Uz Zaman in a case filed over the murder of Imam Hasan Taim during the July Movement. He has been ordered to surrender.

Chamber Judge Md. Rezaul Haque passed the order on Wednesday morning, following a state petition seeking suspension of the bail.

Earlier, a High Court bench had granted bail to SI Sajjad Uz Zaman of Jatrabari Police Station in the case. On Tuesday, family members of the slain Imam Hasan Taim staged a protest in front of the Secretariat’s main gate, expressing outrage over the bail decision.

They issued several demands, including the immediate arrest of SI Sajjad Uz Zaman, expulsion of the two High Court judges who granted the bail, and a show-cause notice against the interim government’s legal advisor. The family warned that unless their demands are met by Wednesday, they would lay siege to the Secretariat or the State Guest House from Sunday.

In response, Interim Government Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul clarified in a Facebook post that the Ministry of Law has no role in bail decisions. “The High Court has granted bail to a member of the police force in a case filed by the martyr’s family. Their anger is understandable. But the Ministry of Law has nothing to do with this bail,” he wrote.
