Chittagong, Oct 30 (V7N)- Former Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md. Saiful Islam has been produced before the tribunal in connection with the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Wasim and alleged crimes against humanity during the suppression of the anti-discrimination student movement in Chittagong last July–August.

He was produced before Tribunal-1 around 10 a.m. on Thursday (October 30).

Earlier, the former CMP Commissioner was arrested from Dhaka on February 12 in a case filed with Chandgaon Police Station. He has remained in jail since then.

According to the investigation, preliminary evidence suggests Saiful Islam’s direct involvement in the killing of Md. Wasim Akram, Faisal Ahmed Shanto, and Md. Faruk in the Muradpur area under Panchlaish Police Station. He has also been accused of arbitrarily arresting and torturing students and civilians during the July movement and filing over 25 false cases to suppress dissent.
