Dhaka, Nov 18 (V7N) — The prosecution has started the process of sending the death sentence warrants of ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to the Foreign Ministry, following their conviction in a case of crimes against humanity, Prosecutor Gazi M. H. Tamim said on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters at the court premises, Prosecutor Tamim said the International Crimes Tribunal no longer has any direct connection with the absconding accused. “They can surrender within the next 30 days and file an appeal with the Appellate Division, where they will have the opportunity to present their statements,” he added.
He further stated that copies of the verdict will be sent to three entities: the prosecution team, the absconding accused, and the district magistrate.
The tribunal had on November 17 sentenced Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death, while former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, a witness in the case, received a five-year prison term.
