On Tuesday January 16, the High Court ordered the relevant authorities to clear the Dhaka-Gazipur-Mymensingh Highway of markets, unlawful businesses, and unregistered cars and to provide a progress report in three months.
The state was represented by Deputy Attorney General Tushar Kanti Roy. SM Badrul, an advocate, submitted the writ petition.
After considering a writ petition, the HC bench made up of Justices Mustafa Zaman Islam and Md Atabullah issued the directive.
The government was also ordered by the court to explain why marketplaces, unauthorized businesses, and unregistered cars that had been removed from the nation's highways but still failed to guarantee the safe passage of citizens could not be considered illegal.
Respondents to the regulation, which is due back in four weeks, include the Chief of Highway Police, the Secretary of the Road Transport Ministry, and the Bangladesh Road Transport Authority.
