A Dhaka court has granted a 10-day police remand for former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, former State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Dhaka University Chhatra League General Secretary Tanbir Hasan Shaikat.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam approved the remand on Thursday afternoon in relation to a murder case registered at Paltan police station.

The three individuals were apprehended on Wednesday night from the Nikunja residential area in Khilkhet, where they had been in hiding. They were then taken to the Detective Branch (DB) office located on Minto Road in the capital.

The murder case is linked to an incident that occurred on July 19, during which a rickshaw puller named Kamal Mia, aged 39, was fatally shot amidst an anti-quota movement in the Paltan area. The following day, Kamal Mia's wife, Fatema Khatun, aged 36, filed a murder case at Paltan police station against unidentified persons.

In a related case, former Law Minister Anisul Huq and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's advisor on private industry and investment, Salman F Rahman, were arrested on Tuesday evening in connection with the killing of a hawker during the Revolution 2024 protests in front of Dhaka College on July 16. Both were also placed on a 10-day remand on Wednesday.
