Dhaka, Aug 21 - A court has granted a four-day remand for Ahmed Hossain, the arrested Awami League Organizing Secretary and former Member of Parliament, along with Rear Admiral (retd) Mohammad Sohail, the former chairman of the Chittagong Port Authority, in connection with the murder case of grocery store owner Nabiul Talukdar in Paltan, Dhaka.

The order was issued by Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Jasim Uddin on Wednesday.

Court sources revealed that the police initially requested a 10-day remand for both Ahmed Hossain and Mohammad Sohail in the Paltan police case. However, no legal representation was present for the accused during the hearing.

Mohammad Sohail, a former spokesperson for the RAB, claimed in court that he was in Chittagong at the time of the incident and denied any involvement in the case.

After considering both sides, the court approved a four-day remand for the two suspects.

The remand petition alleges that both Ahmed Hossain and Mohammad Sohail played roles in the murder of Nabiul Talukdar.

On Wednesday morning, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) announced the arrest of both individuals. Ahmed Hossain was apprehended in Rampura, while Mohammad Sohail was detained in Banani on Tuesday night.

Following the student-led protests and Sheikh Hasina's resignation and departure from the country on August 5, many leaders from the Awami League and its associated organizations have gone into hiding. This includes former ministers, government officials, and high-ranking state personnel, some of whom are now being arrested.
