Dhaka, Sep 26 (V7N) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam disclosed that approximately 500 police vehicles were set ablaze during the student-led public movement in July-August.

Speaking to the media on Thursday at a seminar held at the Tourist Police Headquarters in Dhaka, IGP Islam said that despite the initial setbacks, all affected police stations have received new vehicles and are now functioning normally. He assured that the police are collaborating with all stakeholders to ensure continued service.

Highlighting the police-public relationship, he added, "The police are committed to resolving the challenges faced by citizens and maintaining a positive rapport with the public."

According to police headquarters, Bangladesh has 639 police stations, with 110 in metropolitan areas and 529 in districts.

Regarding security measures for the upcoming Durga Puja celebrations, the IGP confirmed that there is no security threat, emphasizing that the festivities will proceed peacefully as they have in previous years. "We will be on high alert, and while there is no risk of terrorist attacks, strict security measures will be in place."
