Dhaka, Apr 22 (V7N)- The University of Scholars has temporarily expelled two of its students in connection with the murder of Prime Asia University student Zahidul Islam Parvez. The decision was announced in an official notification signed by the university's Registrar Captain Mobasher Ali Khandaker on Tuesday (April 22).
The expelled students are:
-
Fatima Tahsin Oishi, Department of Business Administration
-
Faria Haque Tina, Department of English
The university said that the temporary expulsion followed an initial probe by an internal investigation committee, which was formed in collaboration with relevant departments. According to the notification, evidence from various media and social media sources pointed toward the possible involvement of the two students in the incident.
Registrar Khandaker confirmed that the Prime Asia University authorities had sought clarification about the two accused students through a formal letter, which prompted the University of Scholars to act based on initial findings.
University sources said the proctoral committee failed to contact Oishi and Tina, and no statements could be taken directly from them. Given the gravity of the incident and the lack of cooperation from the students, the university decided to suspend their studentship until the police or final investigation report is released.
The university further assured that if the allegations are substantiated, it will take strict disciplinary action, including permanent cancellation of their studentship. It has also pledged to fully cooperate with law enforcement and share all relevant information and evidence as required.
On Saturday afternoon, a dispute broke out between Zahidul Islam Parvez and a group of students from the University of Scholars, following a verbal exchange involving students from both institutions. While the universities claimed that the matter had been settled, Parvez was later ambushed by a group of 30 to 40 individuals after leaving the Prime Asia campus.
Parvez was stabbed with a sharp weapon and critically injured. He was rushed to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Following the murder, Prime Asia University's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Raihana Begum, announced the formation of a five-member investigative committee and assured support to Parvez’s grieving family.
The brutal killing has sparked widespread outrage and calls for justice, with students and human rights groups demanding swift legal action.
