Teknaf, Oct 01 (V7N) – The Bangladesh Army has apprehended a notorious arms dealer in Kanjarpara, Hoikhong Union, Teknaf upazila, Cox’s Bazar. The arrested individual, Afsar Uddin, 30, son of Abul Hossain, was taken into custody following a tip-off on Tuesday evening around 6 p.m.
During the operation, the army recovered a locally-made Five Star pistol with a magazine, one bullet, two smartphones, two SIM cards, and a sum of cash. Authorities said Afsar Uddin has long been involved in illegal arms and drug trade in the area.
In initial questioning, he admitted to his direct involvement in both drug and illegal arms dealings and acknowledged that he was present in the area for a planned arms sale at the time of his arrest.
The recovered weapons and other evidence have been handed over to the relevant law enforcement agencies for further legal action.
Officials noted that arms and drug smuggling has increased alarmingly along the Ukhia-Teknaf border in recent months. The army continues to conduct regular operations in the area to maintain law and order, and similar interventions will continue in the future.
