Cox’s Bazar, Oct 8 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested Monir Hossain, a listed Yaba godfather and the prime accused in the high-profile Shahjahan murder case, during an operation in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.

The operation took place around 3 p.m. on Tuesday in the Rahmot Bill area under Palongkhali Union. The detainee, Monir Hossain (38), is the son of Jabbar Mulluk from Dhamonkhali village in Palongkhali.

According to BGB sources, Monir was staying in the Rahmot Bill area to share profits from a recent drug trafficking deal. Acting on a tip-off, a special BGB team from the Balukhali Border Outpost (BOP) set up surveillance in the area. When the team moved in, Monir attempted to flee but was quickly captured.

During preliminary interrogation, Monir confessed to being directly involved in Yaba trafficking and drug trading across the border for several years. Investigators said he is not only a drug dealer but also the main accused in the sensational Shahjahan murder case.

Law enforcement sources confirmed that multiple warrants had been issued against him in connection with several murder and narcotics-related cases. He was previously named in a case filed last November for possession of 9,600 Yaba tablets and had been out on bail in several others.

Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, PSC, Commanding Officer of the 64 BGB Battalion, said, “We are determined to dismantle the root networks of narcotics, not just arrest couriers or street-level dealers. Monir Hossain is one of the key figures who had been operating the Yaba syndicate from behind the scenes. Our operations against such drug lords will continue.”

BGB officials said Monir would be handed over to Ukhiya Police Station following legal procedures.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation earlier that morning, a BGB patrol at the Morichya Joint Checkpost detained a young man named Nowaz Uddin Morshed (20) with 22,000 Yaba tablets hidden inside the air filter of his motorcycle. The suspect hails from Purbapuler Deil in Hnila Union of Teknaf upazila.

Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mahtab Uddin Ahmed, Commanding Officer of the 30 BGB Battalion, confirmed the seizure and said, “Legal action is being taken, and the detainee will be handed over to the local police station. Border surveillance and intelligence operations have been intensified to curb cross-border drug trafficking.”

BGB continues to maintain strict vigilance along the Cox’s Bazar–Teknaf border, which remains one of the most active narcotics smuggling routes in the region.
