Ukhiya, Oct 18 (V7N) – Police have arrested a Rohingya man with firearms and ammunition during a special operation in the Ghona Para area of Palongkhali Union under Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Saturday afternoon.
The arrested individual has been identified as Md. Tayeb, 26, son of the late Sabbir Ahmed, a resident of Block C-10 in Camp 19 of the Ukhiya Rohingya settlement. Police recovered a locally made one-shooter gun (LG) and one live round of ammunition from his possession.
According to Ukhiya Police, the operation was conducted around 12:30 p.m. on Saturday based on a tip-off. Acting on the intelligence, a police team raided the front of one Rafiq’s house on a paved road in Ghona Para area, where Tayeb was caught red-handed with the weapon and ammunition.
Ukhiya Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ziaul Haque confirmed the arrest and recovery. “The accused was apprehended with a locally made firearm and live ammunition. A case has been filed against him under the Arms Act, and further investigation is underway,” the OC said.
Law enforcement officials said the operation is part of an ongoing drive to curb the rise of armed activity and criminal networks within Rohingya camps and adjacent areas of Ukhiya.
