Pabna, Oct 19 (V7N) – Police have arrested three hospital employees accused of sexually harassing a female patient at a private hospital in Pabna town. The incident occurred late Saturday night (October 18) at Pabna Central Hospital, located near the district’s General Hospital.
The arrested individuals were identified as Abul Hossain, 30, of Gachpara in Pabna Sadar Upazila; Abdullah Al Mamun, 24, of Bhangoora Upazila; and Mottakin Biswas, 37, of Chak Poilanpur area under Pabna Municipality.
According to the written complaint, the victim underwent a cesarean operation on Saturday night. After the procedure, while being transferred to the ward, one of the hospital staff allegedly sexually harassed her. The woman immediately reported the incident to her relatives.
When the patient’s relatives protested, a verbal altercation broke out between them and the hospital employees. The situation escalated when outsiders joined the staff, leading to a physical confrontation with the relatives. One of the patient’s relatives, identified as Redwan Ahmed Shuvo, a student of Pabna Government Edward College, was involved in the scuffle.
News of the incident spread quickly, prompting a group of college students to rush to the hospital. They launched an attack on the facility, vandalizing several sections and creating chaos. Police arrived at the scene shortly after and brought the situation under control. Three hospital employees were detained and taken to the police station for questioning.
Following the incident, the Pabna district administration and the Civil Surgeon ordered the temporary suspension of all hospital operations pending investigation.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Pabna Sadar Police Station, Abdus Salam, confirmed that the victim’s husband, Momin Sardar, filed a case on Sunday morning. The three detained hospital employees were later shown arrested in the case and sent to jail through the local court in the afternoon.
