Teknaf, Oct 23 (V7N) – Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) successfully rescued 29 individuals during a human trafficking operation in Teknaf on Tuesday night, while arresting three members of a trafficking syndicate. The operation took place along the Marine Drive Beach area.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, commander of BGB-2 Battalion, confirmed the details on Wednesday afternoon. According to him, the arrested individuals are Md. Salim (35), Md. Nurul Absar (19), and Monsur Alam (22). Salim and Absar are residents of Maheshkhaliapara in Teknaf Sadar, while Monsur lives in the Kutupalong Rohingya Refugee Camp in Ukhiya.

During the operation, several traffickers, including Md. Mahmudul Haq (31), Syedul Islam (37), and Azizul Haq (30), along with six to seven unidentified accomplices, managed to escape.

Lieutenant Colonel Rahman stated that earlier on Tuesday, BGB rescued a group of hostages from a remote peak in the Rajachara hills of Teknaf. The team then tracked the traffickers’ movements and intercepted the syndicate at sea along Marine Drive Beach. The 29 rescued individuals were found being prepared for illegal transport. Three traffickers were arrested during the operation, along with the seizure of a locally made firearm, a motorized sampan, and a motorcycle.

The rescued individuals will be handed over to the appropriate authorities following legal procedures. Cases have been filed against the arrested traffickers.

This month alone, BGB has rescued a total of 347 individuals from human trafficking operations in Teknaf and Cox’s Bazar, marking a significant effort to curb trafficking networks in the region.
