Rajshahi, Nov 14 (V7N) – A man accused of killing the teenage son of a Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge had been reported to police just seven days before the attack. The victim’s mother, Tasmin Nahar Lusi, filed a General Diary (GD) on November 6 at Jalalabad Police Station in Sylhet seeking protection from the suspect, Limon Mia, 35. However, police say the investigation into the GD never began because they had not yet received approval from the court.
According to the GD, Lusi became acquainted with Limon through the Quantum Foundation. After gaining her phone number, Limon—who came from a financially struggling family—frequently sought money from her. When she stopped providing assistance, he began threatening her over the phone. The GD states that on November 3, Limon contacted Lusi’s daughter on Facebook Messenger and issued death threats against the entire family, leaving her in fear for their safety.
Jalalabad Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shah Mohammad Mobashwir said the GD was forwarded to the court for permission to open an investigation, but approval has not yet been granted. As a result, no formal steps were taken before the deadly attack.
Judge Abdur Rahman’s wife had been staying in Sylhet with their married daughter, who studies at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). Limon’s threats prompted her to file the GD while in Sylhet.
The judge’s family hails from Chakpara village in Sarishabari, Jamalpur, while Limon is from Madanerpra Bhaniganj village in Fulchhari, Gaibandha. Police said Limon had prior acquaintance with the family, though his full background remains unclear.
The murdered teenager, 16-year-old Tawseef Rahman Suman, was a ninth-grade student at Rajshahi Government Laboratory School. His father, Judge Abdur Rahman, lived with his family in a rented apartment on the fifth floor of a ten-storey building named Spark View in Rajshahi’s Dabtal area.
On Thursday afternoon, Limon visited the apartment and attacked Suman and his mother with a sharp weapon. The attacker himself was also injured and is currently hospitalized under police custody.
The building’s security guard, Meser Ali, said he had never seen Limon before. Limon introduced himself as the judge’s brother, prompting the guard to allow him to enter after recording his name and phone number. He carried a bag when entering the building around 2:30 p.m. Roughly 30 minutes later, a domestic worker raised the alarm, saying the judge’s wife and son had been attacked.
Residents rushed to the apartment and found all three victims severely injured. They were immediately taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).
RMCH spokesperson Shankar K. Biswas said Suman died from severe stab wounds to multiple parts of his body. His mother, Lusi, sustained deep injuries to her right arm, thigh, and left forearm, including a severed tendon in her right arm. A team of surgeons conducted emergency surgery, and her condition is currently stable.
Biswas added that Limon suffered a minor injury to his right hand.
Rajshahi Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mohammad Abu Sufian visited the crime scene in the evening. He said a driving license found in Limon’s pocket suggests he may be a professional driver. Police suspect personal conflict may have motivated the attack. The incident is under full investigation.
