Khulna, Nov 17 (V7N) – Four people, including two children, were killed in two distinct violent incidents in Khulna city on Sunday night.
In the first incident, 35-year-old Alaudin Mridha was shot and slashed to death around 7:30 p.m. at Karimnagar Mor, Sonadanga area. According to Sonadanga Model Police Station SI Suman Howlader, Alaudin was sitting on the balcony of his rented home with his wife when six to seven assailants entered the premises and engaged him in conversation. Suddenly, they fired at him, hitting his chest and abdomen. They then attacked him with a knife, resulting in his death at the scene. Three bullet casings were recovered from the location.
Police stated that Alaudin had previously been involved in drug trafficking and had been recently released on bail after serving a prison sentence. After his release, he worked as a day laborer. Authorities are investigating possible motives behind the killing, including prior personal conflicts.
The second incident occurred near the culvert of Mukta Commissioner in Ward 31, where the bodies of an elderly woman, Mahidunnesa (55), and her two grandchildren, Fatiha (6) and Mustakim (8), were discovered. Lubonchara Police Station SI Piyush Roy said that the children’s parents left them in the care of their grandmother while they went to work. Returning in the evening, they found the grandmother’s body inside the house and the children’s bodies in an adjacent chicken coop. The children’s bodies bore multiple injuries, indicating a violent attack. The murder likely occurred earlier in the day.
Khulna Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner (Crime & Ops) Rashidul Islam Khan confirmed that both incidents were separate and that police had taken the bodies for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
These incidents have raised serious concerns over public safety and security in the city, prompting authorities to increase vigilance and conduct thorough investigations.
