Mongla, Nov 30 (V7N) – Bangladesh Coast Guard personnel have arrested two associates of the notorious Karim Sharif gang in the Sundarbans, recovering firearms and ammunition during an early morning operation on Saturday. The gang is known for long-running criminal activities, including robbery and armed extortion in remote forest areas.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, Media Officer of the Coast Guard (Dhaka), stated that acting on confidential intelligence, authorities learned that members of the Karim Sharif gang were positioned near Bhaizora Canal, adjacent to the Pashur River in the Mongla range of the Sundarbans. Based on this information, a special operation was launched at around 6 a.m.
During the raid, the Coast Guard team detained two alleged associates of the gang and seized one single-barrel gun, three rounds of live ammunition, and four blank cartridges. The detainees were identified as Faruk Bepari, 30, and Imdadul Bepari, 27, both residents of Mongla.
Preliminary interrogation revealed that the two had been assisting the gang for an extended period, including participating in robberies and supplying weapons, ammunition, and logistical support to the group. Legal procedures regarding the detainees and the seized items are currently underway.
The Coast Guard stated that operations will continue in order to keep the Sundarbans free from criminal groups and ensure safety for forest-dependent communities.
