Kurigram, Sep 10 (V7N) - In Chilmark, Kurigram, a Union Parishad chairman is facing allegations for tearing up a check worth Tk 4 lakh intended for a project. The accused, Mohammad Abdur Razzak Milan, who is both the general secretary of the Thana Hat Union Awami League and the chairman of Thana Hat Union Parishad, has been implicated in the incident. A video showing Milan tearing up the check has been widely shared on Facebook.
The check was issued for a homestead eviction project in Rajarvita, Ward 7 of Thana Hat Union, under the National Development Program (NDP). The project, led by ward member Mahfuzar Rahman, had the check issued in Rahman’s name. According to Rahman, he deposited the check into the bank on September 5. However, when he attempted to withdraw the funds on September 8, Chairman Milan appeared at the bank, leading to a heated argument. During this confrontation, Milan allegedly tore up the check and told Rahman that he could not access the funds but should come to his home to settle the matter.
Chairman Abdur Razzak Milan refuted the accusations, claiming they are false and unfounded. He stated that he has not torn any checks and that the check in question is still in his possession.
Shah Alam, the NDP manager, mentioned he was unaware of the situation but would take appropriate action if a formal complaint is made.
Monirul Hasan Tanin, manager of Agrani Bank’s Chilmark branch, indicated that the check was canceled due to internal disputes between the member and the chairman.
