Teknaf, Sep 16 (V7N) – Former Jatrabari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasan was arrested in Teknaf on Monday afternoon. Additional Police Superintendent Md. Jasim Uddin Chowdhury confirmed that Hasan was detained in connection with the murder of Imam Hasan Tayeb.
Tayeb, son of Assistant Sub-Inspector Md. Zainal Hossain Bhuiyan, was killed by gunfire during anti-discrimination protests. Following confirmation of Hasan’s location in Teknaf, police took him into custody and have transported him to the district police headquarters. A team from Dhaka is on its way to Cox’s Bazar to escort Hasan back to the capital for further legal action.
Tayeb was a second-year student at Narayanganj Government Adamjee City College. On August 20, his mother, Ms. Parveen Akhtar, filed a lawsuit against five individuals, including Deputy Police Commissioner Mohammad Iqbal Hossain of the Wari Division, along with ADC Shakil Mohammad Shamim and AC Tanzil Ahmed.
The complaint alleges that during the protests on July 20, which occurred under a curfew from 12 PM to 2 PM, Taime and his friends sought refuge in a tea shop in Jatrabari's Kazla area. The protests intensified as police, directed by DC Iqbal Hossain, Shamim, and Tanzil Ahmed, reportedly instructed Zakir Hossain and others to use tear gas, sound grenades, rubber bullets, and live ammunition against the demonstrators.
The complaint further states that as protesters fled in panic,Tayeb and his friends went into the tea shop, pulling down the partially open shutter. Police allegedly pulled people from beneath the shutter, with Zakir Hossain ordering Tone to run.Tayeb was shot while attempting to escape and died before receiving medical help.
