Dhaka, Sep 19 (V7N) – A passenger bound for Dubai was detained today at Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram, carrying foreign currencies valued at over Tk 2.44 crore.

The detainee, identified as Mohammad Jakir Hossain, is a resident of Ramganj upazila in Lakshmipur, currently residing in the Bangshal area of Old Dhaka.

Md Ibrahim Khalil, the public relations officer of the airport, informed the media that Jakir was apprehended by Customs Intelligence and National Security Intelligence officials when the Dubai-bound US-Bangla Airlines flight 'BS-343' from Dhaka landed at the airport.

During the search, authorities recovered 7,70,000 Saudi Riyals and 46,000 UAE Dirham, amounting to Tk 2.44 crore.

Jakir Hossain is in the process of being handed over to Patenga Police Station, and a case will be filed against him under the Money Laundering Act, according to the airport’s public relations officer.
