Satkhira, Oct 11 (V7N): A gold crown, presented by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Jeshoreshwari Kali Temple in Satkhira District, was stolen on October 10. The Indian High Commission in Bangladesh expressed deep concern over the theft in a post on their official Facebook page, urging the Bangladeshi government to investigate, recover the stolen item, and take legal action against those involved.

The gold crown, a significant gift from Modi during his Bangladesh visit on March 27, 2021, was reportedly stolen within a narrow time frame, between 2:47 pm and 2:50 pm, according to officials. Superintendent of Satkhira Police, Monirul Islam, stated that a young man has been identified from CCTV footage, and law enforcement is actively working to apprehend the suspect and recover the stolen crown.

Locals and temple authorities shared that after the afternoon prayer, priest Dilip Kumar Banerjee handed over the temple keys to Rekha Sarkar, who was in charge of the premises. Sarkar, along with other devotees, was present when the theft occurred. She explained, "I went to wash the utensils used during the prayers at the tubewell, and within minutes, the crown was missing."
