Kurigram, Oct 15 (V7N) – Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by members of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for illegally entering the country from India through the Roumari border in Kurigram district. The arrests were made in the Fakirpara area near Pillar 1061-3S of the Mollar Char border on Tuesday.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Roumari Police Station, Mamunur Rashid , confirmed the arrests in the afternoon. The detained individuals had reportedly crossed the border illegally into India several months ago in search of work through brokers, before being apprehended while attempting to return to Bangladesh.

The arrested individuals are:

1. Chan Mia (56), son of deceased Akkel Ali Howladar, from Madhya Barisal village in Moralganj upazila, Bagerhat.
2. Jamal Mallik (68), son of deceased Hashem Mallick, from Sannyasi village, Moralganj upazila, Bagerhat.
3. Zakaria Shikdar (18), son of Barek Sikder, from Hugatpati village.
4. Rezaul Shikdar (20), son of Abdur Rashid, from Politics village.
5. Nurul Islam (43), son of late Belayt Hossain, from Gabtala village.
6. Russell (32), son of Abdul Latif, from North Tafalbari village, Sharankhola upazila.
7. Farhad (35), son of Sobhan Hossain, from Khatiamari village, Roumari upazila, Kurigram.
8. Zakirul Haque (45), son of late Alhaj Naeem Uddin, from Khatiamari village.

BGB sources revealed that these individuals were detained by a patrolling team in the early hours of Tuesday morning. According to Naik Subedar Sirajul Islam , commander of the Mollarchar BOP camp, additional border patrols have been implemented following the arrests to prevent further illegal crossings.

OC Mamunur Rashid added that the BGB has filed a case against the detainees for illegal entry, and they are scheduled to be presented in court on Wednesday.
