Patuakhali, Oct 23 (V7N) – The deep depression over the East Central Bay of Bengal has continued its west-northwest movement, with potential to intensify into a cyclonic storm. As of last night, it was located approximately 680 kilometers south-southeast of Payra seaport, according to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department.
The Bay of Bengal near Kuakata in Patuakhali is already experiencing rough conditions due to the depression. Overcast skies and light drizzling have been reported in many coastal areas. Air pressure has slightly increased, and the water levels of rivers along the coast have risen, signaling a possible escalation of the depression's impact.
In response to the worsening weather, authorities have issued remote warning signal number 01 for all sea ports in the country, including Payra. Fishing trawlers have been instructed to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution, prepared to seek shelter if the situation deteriorates further.
Experts warn that the depression could bring gale-force winds along the coast, threatening maritime and coastal activities. As conditions remain unstable, the Meteorological Department continues to monitor the situation, urging the public and relevant authorities to stay alert for further updates.
Local residents are advised to take necessary precautions and follow instructions from authorities as the depression potentially turns into a cyclonic storm in the coming days.
