Mongla, Oct 24 (V7N)- Cyclone 'Dana,' currently located 485 km south of Mongla sea port, has brought heavy rains to the coastal regions starting Thursday morning. As the day progresses, skies continue to darken and the rainfall intensifies, disrupting the movement and transportation of goods from foreign commercial ships stationed at the port.
Port authorities have issued their own Alert One for the cyclone. Harbor Master Commander Saifur Rahman Bhuia has stated that all port activities will cease if the alert is raised further. Domestic and foreign commercial ships have already been instructed to stay on high alert as the situation develops. The authorities are closely monitoring the cyclone and will take additional steps as necessary.
In the Sundarbans region, particularly in Dubla Char, heavy rainfall and increasing tidal waters have been reported. Md. Khalilur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the Dubla patrol post, confirmed that stormy winds are affecting the area, causing tidal waters to rise higher than usual.
In preparation for the cyclone, the upazila administration held a meeting in the morning, chaired by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Afia Sharmin. The meeting confirmed that all necessary precautions have been taken. Upazila Project Implementation Officer Md Zafar Rana reported that 103 shelters and 1,320 volunteers are ready to respond. Medical teams, fire services, and stocks of dry food, medicines, and clean water have also been prepared to assist those affected by the storm.
