Sylhet, Nov 07 (V7N) — Sylhet Medical University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. AHM Enayet Hossain, faced a blockade by university officials and employees in his office on Thursday morning. The protest started around 10 a.m. at the university’s temporary campus, where demonstrators demanded accountability for his prolonged absence following the government’s transition on August 5. The Vice Chancellor has remained confined to his office as of 11 p.m. despite intervention attempts by senior administration officials, the police, and the army.

University officials report that since the government’s changeover, the VC, along with other high-ranking officials like the registrar and treasurer, have been unresponsive, creating a leadership void on campus. Their frustration heightened when they received news of Dr. Hossain’s arrival, allegedly accompanied by Jubo League and Chhatra League activists bearing important documents.

Abdus Samad Chowdhury, President of the Anti-Discrimination Officer-Employee Council at the university, expressed the collective frustration: “Since August 5, there has been no leadership presence. We have had no one to address our grievances or manage university operations. We decided to take a stand upon hearing that the VC was on campus with members of Jubo League and Chhatra League.”

As tensions persist, university staff demand transparent leadership and an immediate explanation for the prolonged absence of key officials. The situation remains closely monitored by security forces, though no resolution has been reached at this time.
