Pabna, Nov 08 (V7N)- The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh marked a key milestone as steam supply operations commenced in its start-up standby boiler room, following the first ignition. This development is critical to ensuring the smooth and safe operation of Bangladesh's inaugural nuclear power facility.

Rosatom Bangladesh, the project’s technical contractor, announced the achievement in a press release on Friday noon. According to the statement, the steam generated from this boiler room is essential for crucial commissioning processes, such as the "hot running" of the reactor and initiating trial vacuum supply to the turbine condenser.

The start-up boiler is designed to facilitate scheduled maintenance once the plant is operational. It also ensures the safe provision of hot water to various project installations and the power units in the event of an emergency shutdown.

Alexey Deiri, Vice-President of the Bangladesh Project at Etmastroy Export, expressed pride in the accomplishment, noting, “Today we achieved another important goal, which is the commissioning of the start-up standby boiler room. This milestone supports the subsequent commissioning work and is vital for the safe operations of a nuclear power plant."

The Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant is a landmark project for Bangladesh, which is being constructed with technical and financial support from Russia. The plant will feature two power units, collectively providing 2,400 MW of electricity. Both units will be equipped with 3+ generation VVER-1200 reactors from Russia, adhering to international safety standards.

Rosatom's engineering division serves as the General Designer and Contractor for this major infrastructure endeavor.
