Netrakona, Nov 08, (V7N) - In a heart-wrenching incident that has left a village stunned, a helpless farmer in Sahapur, Netrakona, is left pleading for justice after a group allegedly cut down his rice crops without permission. Rahij Uddin, a 60-year-old farmer, is at the center of this devastating story, as his only source of livelihood was seized in broad daylight.
On Thursday morning, a group of 20 to 25 individuals, led by local men named Noyon Mia, Mamun Mia, Liton Mia, Shamsher Mia, Sabuj Mia, and Abu Asad, reportedly stormed Rahij’s field and began harvesting his crop without warning. Witnesses and locals describe the scene as shocking and traumatic, as Rahij watched his hard-earned harvest disappear before his eyes.
The distressed farmer reported the incident to a nearby military camp. Responding quickly, a team from the Netrakona Army Camp, led by Major Jisanul Haider, arrived on the scene to intervene. They issued a strict warning to the assailants, instructing them to cease any forced harvesting or interference with Rahij’s crops.
But for Rahij, this was not the first time he and his family had faced harassment. He shared with Voice7 News that he had been subjected to repeated abuse and intimidation from the same group over recent months. This event, however, marked a disturbing escalation. Now, alongside supportive locals, Rahij is calling for a full investigation, as the community demands justice and an end to the torment inflicted on him.
Local leaders, including Netrakona Sadar Upazila Tati Dal’s Member Secretary Md. Motaleb Hossain, Rauha Union Jubo Dal leader Md. Selim Ahmed Selim, Rauha Union Swechchhasebak Dal leader Faruk Rahman Rony, and Imran Hossain, General Secretary of Rauha Union Chhatra Dal, gathered at the scene. Nearly 50 villagers stood in solidarity with Rahij, their collective presence underscoring the community’s outrage and determination to seek justice.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge Kazi Shahnewaz of the Netrakona Model Police Station told Voice7 News on Friday evening that while no formal complaint had yet been filed, they were prepared to launch a thorough investigation upon receiving a written statement.
For Rahij Uddin, whose life and livelihood are tied to the land, this incident is more than a matter of lost crops—it is a story of resilience, survival, and an urgent plea for justice in the face of relentless adversity.
