Chilmari, Nov 18 (V7N) — The ferry service on the Chilmari-Raumari route, which was suspended for 11 days due to navigability issues in the Brahmaputra River, is set to resume on Tuesday (November 19). The Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) has confirmed that the route will be operational again following the completion of dredging and marking work.

The ferry service was halted on November 8 due to a navigability crisis that made the route unsafe for vessels. The suspension caused significant disruption to transport and trade in the region, impacting local communities that rely heavily on this service.

Kamruzzaman, the engineer overseeing dredging on the Chilmari-Raumari route, stated that dredging operations to remove sediment and deepen the river channel have been completed. He added that marking critical points along the route, a final step to ensure safe navigation, is expected to be completed by tomorrow morning.

Prafulla Chauhan, Manager (Commercial) of BIWTC at Chilmari, confirmed the progress, stating:
“Excavation work has been completed. If BIWTA finishes marking by tomorrow, ferry service will resume.”

The resumption of ferry service will restore vital connectivity between Chilmari and Raumari, benefiting local residents, traders, and travelers. The service is crucial for the transportation of goods and passengers across the Brahmaputra River.

The authorities have expressed optimism about the timely resumption and assured the public of a safe and reliable ferry service from November 19.
