Jhalkathi, Dec 21, (V7N) - In the past few days, Kathalia in Jhalkathi has been experiencing severe cold, thick fog, and light drizzling rain, severely affecting the daily life of the people. The number of cold-related illnesses has risen, with children and the elderly being particularly affected. The working class, especially daily wage earners, is facing extreme difficulties in the harsh cold.
Since Saturday, December 21, cold weather combined with light rain has paralyzed daily life in the region. Due to the intense cold and continuous rain, people are facing severe discomfort. Most people are staying indoors unless absolutely necessary.
Mohammad Selim Ghorami, a hotel owner at Jamaddar Hat in Kathalia, shared, “The cold has been intense for the past few days, and with the light rain since last night, fewer people are coming to the market. As a result, business is extremely slow.”
Laborer Mohammad Swapan Khan mentioned, “I am a daily wage worker, and I support my family by working in the market. But today, because of the rain and cold, no one has come to the market, so I couldn’t earn anything.”
Rickshaw puller Mohammad Tokab Howlader said, “Since this morning, it has been raining, and I couldn’t make any earnings today. My wife is sick, and she needs medicine every day. Only Allah knows if I will be able to buy the medicine today.”
Dr. Sohaq Mojumder, a doctor at Kathalia Union Health and Family Planning Center, stated, “Due to the severe cold and rain, children and the elderly are suffering from cold-related illnesses, especially cough, cold, and fever.”
