Gopalganj, Jan 11, (V7N) - Violence broke out between two rival factions of the BNP in Muksudpur upazila of Gopalganj on Friday evening, injuring at least 25 people. The clashes were a result of a power struggle between supporters of Syed Joynul Abedin Mesbah and Selimuzzaman Selim, two prominent leaders of the party.

The conflict began as tensions between the two groups over dominance in the area intensified. According to local sources, the situation escalated rapidly with stone-pelting and the exchange of counter-attacks between the rival supporters. Around 30 shops were damaged during the chaos, with goods looted and storefronts destroyed.

As news of the violence spread, panic struck the area, prompting a massive response from the police. Shital Chandra Pal, the Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Muksudpur Police Station, confirmed that police forces were dispatched immediately to control the unrest. Despite their efforts to restore order, it took several hours for the situation to de-escalate.

The injured have been rushed to Muksudpur Upazila Health Complex, where they are receiving medical treatment. Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, but their injuries are reported to range from minor to moderate.

The clash highlights ongoing political tensions in the region, which have been escalating as different factions vie for influence in the upcoming local elections. The police are continuing to monitor the situation closely to prevent further violence.
