Rajshahi, Jan 15 (V7N) - Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has called on newly trained Sub-Inspectors (SIs) to build a people-friendly policing system focused on honesty, transparency, and human rights. He emphasized that SIs play a crucial role in crime investigation, handling nearly 90% of criminal cases in Bangladesh. By applying their training from the Bangladesh Police Academy, SIs can contribute significantly to justice and public trust in law enforcement.

The IGP made these remarks as the chief guest at the graduation parade of the 40th Cadet SI batch at the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardaha, Rajshahi, on Wednesday (January 15). Highlighting the evolving nature of crime, he stressed the need for police modernization to meet new challenges and protect citizens' lives and property while maintaining social order.

Reflecting on the police force's heroic role in the 1971 Liberation War, IGP Baharul Alam honored the sacrifice of police members who first resisted on March 25, 1971, at Rajarbagh Police Lines. He urged the new SIs to show empathy towards crime victims, particularly women, children, and the disabled, and to uphold justice without discrimination.

Discussing ongoing reforms, the IGP noted that the interim government is actively working to transform the police into a politically neutral and transparent institution through the Police Reform Commission. He expressed optimism about establishing a non-discriminatory and democratic state by rebuilding the police system.

The ceremony was attended by the Police Academy Principal Md. Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, senior police and military officers, freedom fighters, civil society members, and the cadets' families. The event featured a grand parade with 480 cadets, including 22 women officers. Cadet Badiuzzaman was recognized as the best academic performer, Cadet Nayan Kumar Dhali as the best shooter and swimmer, Cadet Nazrul Islam for field performance, and Cadet Ariful Islam for overall excellence. The IGP personally awarded the outstanding cadets for their achievements.
