Mongla (Bagerhat), Jan 28, (V7N) - Three pirates were captured by fishermen during a robbery attempt in the Dublar Char fishing village of the Sundarbans on Sunday night (January 26). The armed bandits, along with weapons and ammunition, were handed over to the Dublar Char Coast Guard Station shortly after the incident.
According to Dubla Fisherman Group Chairman Md. Kamal Uddin Ahmed, a group of 10–12 pirates arrived in a fishing trawler around 11 PM. Dividing into two groups, they attacked the fishermen and took several of them hostage. One group of bandits moved south of the char, while the other held five fishermen captive.
Responding to the cries of the hostages, nearby fishermen gathered and managed to overpower three of the bandits. During the scuffle, the fishermen recovered a locally made weapon, bullets, and documents believed to be of Indian origin. The captured bandits were later handed over to the Coast Guard along with the seized items.
An official of the Coast Guard West Zone, requesting anonymity, confirmed that an operation is underway to address the situation and that further details will be provided later.
