Rangamati, Jan 31 (V7N) – The families of six truck workers who recently lost their lives were given death fund assistance during a ceremony held by the Rangamati District Truck, Mini Truck, and Pickup Workers’ Union at the Rangamati Truck Terminal.
The leaders of the union expressed their concerns about the ongoing exploitation of workers, mentioning how the transport sector had been destroyed by extortionist gangs during the previous regime. They emphasized the need for unity among workers from all sectors to fight for their rights.
The event was presided over by ATM Hasmat Ullah, President of the union, and featured speeches by various leaders, including central labor federation Secretary Wazullah, union advisor Abul Hashem, and others. They also discussed the need for local trucks in Rangamati to handle the transportation of pineapples and jackfruits, arguing for the protection and welfare of workers in the region.
At the end of the event, the families of the deceased workers – Mohammad Abdul Motaleb, Shafiul Alam, Mohammad Mannan, Babu Rajukar Bishu, Mohammad Jamal, and Mohammad Selim – were each granted a one-time donation of Tk 50,000 from the organization’s death fund.
