Pabna, Feb 16 (V7N) – BNP leaders and activists have been accused of attacking and vandalizing a Jamaat office in Pabna Sadar Upazila, allegedly to establish political dominance. The attack, which took place on Saturday night (Feb 15) around 10 PM, resulted in a motorcycle being set on fire and several homes being ransacked.

According to a written complaint filed on Sunday afternoon, at least seven BNP leaders and activists were directly involved, while many others remain unidentified. The attackers, reportedly armed with firearms and melee weapons, also vandalized a grocery store and an auto-rickshaw garage.

Eyewitnesses claim that the assailants burned festoons of martyrs Abu Sayeed and Zahidul Islam, figures from the anti-discrimination student movement. Jamaat leader Abdullah Karim accused BNP of spreading terror in the area since August and demanded immediate arrests.

However, accused BNP leader Yaqub Ali denied involvement, stating that he was only present to control the situation after being contacted by police. Meanwhile, Pabna Sadar Police Station confirmed ongoing tensions between BNP and Jamaat over land and political influence.

A police team has visited the scene, and officials assure that legal action will be taken if necessary.
