Lalmonirhat, Mar 01 (V7N) – A sector commander-level flag meeting was held between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and India’s Border Security Force (BSF) at the Patgram border in Lalmonirhat, where both sides agreed to reduce border killings to zero.

The meeting took place on Thursday afternoon at Panbari BOP, following a request from BGB. Colonel Sabbir Ahmed, Sector Commander of Rangpur Sector, led the discussions on behalf of BGB, while Brigadier Rajib Gautam, DIG of Jalpaiguri Sector, represented BSF.

Key Agreements from the Meeting:

  • Zero Border Killings – Both sides pledged to prevent unnecessary violence at the border.
  • No Structures Within 150 Yards – Agreement not to build any new infrastructure close to the border.
  • Stronger Joint Patrols – Both forces committed to enhanced security patrols to prevent smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal infiltration.
  • Protection of Innocent Civilians – A mutual agreement to ensure no harm comes to unarmed people, including women and children.
  • Border Development Activities – Discussion on cooperation in development initiatives along the border areas.

Senior officers from 51 BGB (Rangpur Battalion), 61 BGB (Teesta Battalion), and BSF’s 6, 40, and 98 Battalions attended the meeting.

This meeting marks a significant step in ensuring peace and security at the Bangladesh-India border, with both forces emphasizing bilateral cooperation and human rights in border management.
