Habiganj, Mar 12 (V7N) – A joint operation by the Upazila administration and the army in Madhabpur Bazar, Habiganj, resulted in fines totaling Tk 35,000 against three businessmen for price gouging and violating consumer rights.

The operation, conducted on Wednesday afternoon, was led by Madhabpur Upazila Executive Officer Zahed Bin Kashem and Senior War Officer Md. Bashet from Shahjibazar Army Camp. Under the Environment and Consumer Rights Act, shop owner Sudhir Pal of M/s Sudhir Store Panpatti was fined Tk 20,000 for selling banned polythene and failing to display a price list.

Additionally, Gopal Pal of Messrs. Gopal Store and Amar Debnath of Akash Store were fined Tk 7,500 each for selling soybean oil at inflated prices. Authorities have warned that market monitoring and enforcement drives will continue to prevent unfair trade practices.
