Sundarbans, Apr 08 (V7N)– The Bangladesh Coast Guard has apprehended a poacher and seized a substantial quantity of deer meat, totaling 110 kilograms, during a raid conducted in the Sundarbans. The operation took place on Tuesday afternoon near the Nalian Thakurbari Ghat area.

"The Coast Guard has arrested a poacher named Ariful Sardar (24) with 110 kg of deer meat during a raid in the Sundarbans. The meat was recovered during a raid in the area adjacent to Nalian Thakurbari Ghat in the Sundarbans on Tuesday afternoon," confirmed Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq.

According to Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq, the Coast Guard launched the raid based on intelligence indicating that deer were being illegally hunted and smuggled out of the Sundarbans in the vicinity of Nalian Thakurbari Ghat.

"He said that the Coast Guard conducted a raid in the area adjacent to Nalian Thakurbari Ghat in the Sundarbans based on a tip-off that deer were being hunted and smuggled from the Sundarbans," Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq explained.

Upon the Coast Guard's arrival, a group of individuals, including Md. Shahjahan, reportedly an associate of the notorious Sundarbans forest robber Karim Sharif, abandoned two boats and fled into the dense forest.

"Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard, unknown persons including Md. Shahjahan, an associate of the notorious forest robber Karim Sharif of the Sundarbans, abandoned two boats and fled," the Coast Guard official stated.

Following the suspects' escape, a search of the abandoned boats was conducted, leading to the discovery of the 110 kilograms of deer meat. One individual, identified as Ariful Sardar, 24, a resident of Dakop police station in Khulna, was arrested at the scene.

"Later, the boat was searched and 110 kg of deer meat was recovered and a poacher named Ariful Sardar was arrested from the spot. The arrested Ariful is a resident of Dakop police station in Khulna," Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq detailed.

The seized deer meat and the arrested poacher have been handed over to the Nalian Forest Office for further legal action. This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by the Bangladesh Coast Guard to combat poaching and protect the wildlife within the Sundarbans, a vital and ecologically sensitive region.
