Jhalakathi, Apr 09 (V7N)– A court in Jhalakathi has sentenced the wife of a Jubo League activist to prison for filing a false rape case. The verdict was delivered by the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on Wednesday afternoon.

"The Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal has ordered the wife of a Jubo League activist to be sent to prison for filing a false case of rape in Jhalakathi," confirmed Shyamal Chandra Roy, a court bench assistant.

The acting judge of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal, Additional District and Sessions Judge Aminul Islam, issued the order for Sumaiya Akhter Rimi to be incarcerated.

"On Wednesday (April 9) afternoon, Additional District and Sessions Judge Aminul Islam, the acting judge of the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal, ordered him to be sent to prison," Roy stated.

The convicted individual, Sumaiya Akhter Rimi, is the wife of Jubo League activist Mamun Hawlader from Nalchiti Upazila and the daughter of Zakir Hossain, a resident of the Anurag area within the municipality.

"The housewife who went to prison, Sumaiya Akhter Rimi, is the wife of Jubo League activist Mamun Hawlader of Nalchiti Upazila and the daughter of Zakir Hossain of Anurag area of ​​the municipality," court records confirmed.

According to court documents, Sumaiya Akhter Rimi filed a rape case with the Nalchiti Police Station on November 28, 2022, under the Women and Torture Prevention Act, accusing Kawsar Hossain alias Mintu Mridha, 70, of Kulkathi Union in Nalchiti Upazila, of rape. Following the filing of the case, police arrested Mintu Mridha, who was subsequently sent to jail. After spending several days in custody, Mintu Mridha was granted bail by the High Court.

"According to court and case sources, on November 28, 2022, Sumaiya Akhter Rimi filed a rape case under the Women and Torture Prevention Act at the Nalchiti Police Station against Kawsar Hossain alias Mintu Mridha (70) of Kulkathi Union of Nalchiti Upazila on charges of rape. Later, the police arrested her. Then, she was sent to jail through the court. After serving a few days in prison in that case, Mintu Mridha was released on bail by the High Court," court records detailed.

The investigating officer assigned to the case conducted a thorough investigation and ultimately concluded that the rape allegations were false. Consequently, a final report was submitted to the tribunal stating the allegations were baseless.

"Later, the investigating officer of the case investigated the case and, finding no truth in the allegations, submitted a final report to the tribunal, stating that the allegations were false," the court bench assistant explained.

On Wednesday afternoon, based on the findings of the investigation report, the judge delivered the verdict, ordering Sumaiya Akhter Rimi to be sent to prison for filing a false accusation of rape. The length of the prison sentence was not immediately clear from the provided information.

"On Wednesday afternoon, the judge ordered him to be sent to prison for filing a false rape case," Roy reiterated.
