Jhalakathi, Mar 15 (V7N) – Police have arrested two accused from Dhaka in connection with the murder of Paharadar Shahjahan Howlader in Kathalia upazila of Jhalakathi.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday from the Dakshinkhan and Sayedabad areas of the capital with assistance from Dhaka Metropolitan Police and the Rapid Action Battalion.
The arrested individuals are Johnny Howlader (21), son of Abdur Razzak Howlader of Shauljalia village in the upazila, and Likhon Khan (13), son of Yunus Khan of Uttar Kachua village.
Officer-in-Charge of Kathalia Police Station Abu Naser Raihan confirmed the arrests.
According to police, Shahjahan Howlader was attacked by miscreants in the early hours of the morning last year while returning home after a procession at the Centre’s market. The attackers beat him and left him critically injured on the road in the Kachua area.
Locals rescued him and took him to the upazila health complex. As his condition deteriorated, he was later shifted to hospitals in Barisal and Dhaka, including Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.
Following the incident, the victim’s wife Beauty Begum filed a murder case with Kathalia Police Station.
Police said the arrested suspects have been produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
