Tahseen Bahar Shuchona has unofficially clinched victory in the by-election for Cumilla City Corporation, as announced by Farhad Hossain, the returning officer, this evening at the Zilla School auditorium in the city.

Shuchona, daughter of Cumilla-6 (Sadar) lawmaker and president of Cumilla city unit Awami League AKM Bahauddin Bahar, garnered 48,890 votes, while her closest competitor, Monirul Hoque Sakku, received 26,897 votes.

Former BNP leader Nizam Uddin Kaiser, another contestant, secured 13,155 votes, and Noor-ur Rahman Mahmud Tanim bagged 5,173 votes.

Voting commenced at 8:00 a.m. and concluded at 4:00 p.m., with electronic voting machines (EVMs) utilized for the polls.

Expressing gratitude, Tahseen Bahar attributed her victory to the Cumilla metropolis Awami League and the city's residents, calling for support from all sectors to revitalize Cumilla City.

The mayoral position of Cumilla City Corporation became vacant following the passing of its 2nd mayor, Arfanul Haque Rifat.
