Madhabpur, May 9 (V7N) - In Madhabpur, Habiganj, the houses of 50 families living on the railway department's land were demolished without any notice, and family members are spending their days under the open sky.
A school has been demolished. The sudden demolition of the school has left the students and teachers of the school devastated.
About 50 families have been living in the Shahjibazar Mazar area of Baghasura Union in Madhabpur Upazila for a long time, near the railway station and DC Khatian area.
Although these families have been living in this place for a long time, these houses were suddenly evicted yesterday afternoon (May 9), and there are allegations that two houses were set on fire. A kindergarten school was also destroyed during this time.
Today, Friday afternoon, families were seen living under the open sky. Young children and young men were running around in the scorching sun. Many families were starving.
The affected families said that they have been living next to the railway for about 30/40 years. On Thursday, several people including the police came and demolished their houses. A person named Asad is said to be the owner of this place, he got this place by filing a case. But no notice was given to them to evict them from here.
Advocate Nazrul Islam said that a case has been going on for a long time regarding this place. The railway authorities also filed a case. But at that time, no supporting documents were given to the court on behalf of the railway authorities and the District Commissioner. No government place and the DC office space can belong to any person. The case documents are not available. Efforts are being made to collect the case files.
Alauddin Mia said, "We know that this is the place of the railway and DC offices, but questions have arisen about how this place belongs to a person."
Shahid Mia, Muslim Mia, Rafiq Mia said that they are demanding that the government provide them with a place to live in this place. Otherwise, they will have to live under the open sky with their families.
On Thursday afternoon, a police team led by DC Office Nazir Fahima Akhter Khanam and Madhabpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner Bhumi Mujibul Islam conducted an eviction operation.
Lokman Mia, Tehsildar of Kalikapur Land Office in Madhabpur Upazila, said that a revision case will be filed in this regard. Many of the houses that were next to the railway were on the premises of the DC office and railway premises.
Railway surveyor Furkan Ali said he is a new joiner here. The 30/40 feet of land next to the railway line belongs to the railway department.
Madhabpur Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Mujibul Islam said he only went there on the court's orders.
