Brahmanbaria, May 10 (V7N): Train operations on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet routes came to a standstill after a freight train derailed in Brahmanbaria on Friday night.

The incident occurred around 9:45 PM near the Pahartala area, approximately one kilometer from the Brahmanbaria Railway Station, within the municipal limits of the town.

According to Jasim Uddin, the acting station master of Brahmanbaria Railway Station, a wagon of a Dhaka-bound freight train originating from Chattogram went off the tracks. During the derailment, one of the containers toppled over and fell onto the adjacent down line (Chattogram-bound), effectively blocking both the up and down railway lines.

As a result, train services on the Dhaka-Chattogram and Dhaka-Sylhet routes have been suspended until further notice.

Although a rescue train was being prepared at the Akhaura Junction Station following the incident, it had yet to depart for the site as of 11:45 PM, according to official sources.

Railway authorities have stated that efforts are underway to restore normal operations as quickly as possible, but have not yet provided a timeline for resumption of service.
