Rangpur, May 19 (V7N) – A major upheaval has shaken the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Rangpur, as 16 top leaders of the district and metropolitan committees resigned on Sunday night, citing serious allegations of corruption, extortion, tender manipulation, land grabbing, and recruitment scams against some senior members.

The leaders made the announcement during a press conference held at the Rangpur District Shilpakala Academy premises at 8 PM.

In a joint statement, the resigning leaders condemned the actions of the accused individuals, stating, “The allegations and evidence of corruption, abuse of power, and immoral conduct by several leaders—including the convener and member secretary of the Rangpur district committee—are entirely against the core principles and spirit of our movement. These actions have brought shame not only upon the accused but also upon those of us who have worked with honesty and dedication.”

They further stated that their continued association with such leadership would compromise their integrity and the movement’s credibility.

Additionally, more than 50 other leaders and activists have also announced their withdrawal from the platform in protest.

This development follows the resignation of Mahmudur Rahman Leon, a district committee member, on May 15, who stepped down citing similar concerns over corruption and mismanagement.

The resignations have sparked concern about internal instability within the movement, which has been at the forefront of major student-led protests in recent months.
