Tangail, MAY 27 (V7N) – Students at Nuchia Mamudpur Government Primary School in Deuliabari Union of Ghatail Upazila, Tangail, have been attending classes in a dilapidated and dangerous building for an extended period, raising fears of a major accident at any moment. The building's walls are cracked, significant portions of the roof's plaster have fallen off, and during the rainy season, water leaks directly into the classrooms. This precarious situation has left parents hesitant to send their children to school.

Established in 1984 on 40 percent of the land, the school's single-story building was constructed in 1997. It has not undergone renovation for a considerable time, leading to its current hazardous state. Despite the clear dangers, teachers are compelled to conduct classes here due to the absence of a new building, forcing students to navigate their academic lives under constant apprehension.

On-site observations confirm the alarming condition, with plaster visibly crumbling from various parts of the classroom ceilings. The ceiling of one classroom has even collapsed. Students are consequently exposed to significant risks while attending classes.

Students themselves expressed their perpetual fear of structural collapse during lessons. Some have already sustained minor injuries from falling plaster on several occasions. They have collectively appealed for the immediate construction of a new building.

School Principal Shirin Khatun corroborated the concerns, stating that the school building's roof is deteriorating in multiple areas. She noted that parents withdraw their children from school whenever the building is exposed to severe storms and rains, highlighting the risk of the building collapsing at any time. The principal also revealed that despite reporting the matter to the concerned authorities numerous times, no effective action has been taken to date.

Local residents and parents have urgently demanded immediate renovation or reconstruction of the dangerous building, emphasizing that "the safety of the students must be ensured first." They voiced their reluctance to allow their children to continue studying in such fearful conditions.

Ghatail Upazila Education Officer Rafiul Islam, when contacted, confirmed that Nuchia Mamudpur Government Primary School holds the top spot on the list of risky schools in the upazila. He expressed unawareness regarding the delay in constructing a new building but pledged to re-list the school for consideration.
