Teknaf, Sept 21 (V7N) — A fisherman, Md. Anwar Hossain, 50, died after being struck by lightning while fishing in the Naf River in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar on Sunday morning.
 
The tragic incident occurred approximately 500 meters from BRM-7, located northeast of the Teknaf BOP, in the Hessar Khal area of the Naf River. Anwar Hossain was a resident of Uttar Chowdhury Para village in Ward No. 7 of Teknaf Municipality and the son of Lalu Mia.
 
Former Teknaf municipal councilor Nazma Akter confirmed the incident, stating that Anwar Hossain was fishing when he was suddenly struck by lightning. Local residents later recovered his body and brought it home.
 
Teknaf Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, (OC) Abu Zayed Mo. Najmun Noor also confirmed the incident. He stated that legal procedures were followed, and the body was handed over to the family.
 
This tragic event highlights the dangers faced by local fishermen during sudden storms and lightning strikes in the region.
