Rangamati, Sept 27 (V7N) – World Tourism Day 2025 was celebrated in Rangamati on Saturday with colorful programs highlighting the region’s natural beauty, culture, and tourism potential. The day’s events began in the morning with a marathon race organized by the Rangamati Hill District Council, starting from the Tourism Complex. Later, a vibrant rally was brought out from the Gymnasium and concluded at the District Council premises.

Following the rally, a discussion meeting was held at the council’s annex building. The event was presided over by Acting Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, Atul Prasad Chakma, as chief guest. Outgoing Zone Commander of Rangamati Sadar Cantonment, Lieutenant Colonel Md. Junaid Uddin Shah Chowdhury, newly appointed Zone Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Ekramul Rahat, and Superintendent of Police of the Tourist Police Rangamati Region, Khairul Amin, attended as special guests.

This year’s Tourism Media Fellowship awardee, journalist and writer Yasin Rana Sohel, presented the keynote paper. Veteran academic Nirupa Dewan, Rangamati Press Club President Anwar Al Haque, and District Council members Naipru Marma and Baishali Chakma also delivered speeches. The speakers emphasized the immense potential of Rangamati in boosting the country’s tourism sector, stressing the need to preserve local traditions, culture, and biodiversity while promoting eco-tourism. They noted that the scenic hills, rivers, lakes, and forests could significantly enrich Bangladesh’s tourism industry, but sustainable development would only be possible with active participation of local communities.

Earlier, Rangamati Tourism Corporation Manager Alok Bikash Chakma delivered the welcome address. The event was moderated by Rangamati Tour Operators Association President Badsha Faisal and Radio Rangamati presenter Chaiti Ghosh.

At the conclusion of the ceremony, honors were awarded in several categories: writer and journalist Yasin Rana Sohel was recognized as a tourism personality, “Rangadweep” was named best resort, and Al Amin Sajid received recognition as best content creator. Certificates were also distributed to participants of a month-long tour guide training program, along with awards for winners of the marathon competition.

Tourism experts highlighted that Rangamati is not only known for its breathtaking landscapes of hills, lakes, and waterfalls but also for its vibrant local handicrafts, culinary diversity, and unique cultural heritage. Visitors are drawn to the region not just for natural attractions but also for the warmth, hospitality, and traditions of its indigenous communities, making Rangamati one of the most appealing destinations in Bangladesh.
